Another huge turnout for the latest Black and Brown belt training
Prior to the session a final presentation was made by Richard Fewkes 3rd Dan from JKS Sheffield, who organised the recent Karate-A-Thon fund raising event. It had already been announced that the event had raised £5,500 for the JKS England squad fund. However, to everyone's
suprise, the sponsorship money had continued to be collected, and with a final contribution by Alan Campbell Sensei, the total for the England squad had gone to £7,000. This is a superb effort and a big thank you to everyone involved, especially Richard.
The session then started with warm ups being taken by Steve Spence 5th Dan from Walsall Karate Dojo before Alan Sensei took over for what was a superb 2 hours of detailed kihon, kata and bunkai.
After the training, the hall was split into two. One side saw JKS England squad members and aspiring squad members have a briefing on recent WKF rule changes from the Chief referee Geoff Dixon Sensei 5th Dan before being put through their paces for one and a half hours of Open squad training with National Head Coach Matt Price Sensei 6th Dan.
The other side saw Geoff Sensei run another excellent referee and judge training session which included a presentation plus a short practical exercise at the end. It was very pleasing to see some new faces appear along with current qualified referees and judge plus those that have been in the program for a little while working towards their qualification.
The next JKS Black and Brown belt training is on 31st May in Nottingham. A Shodan and Nidan grading follows. Please check the calendar for more information.
