Superb performance by JKS England at the BKF International Open
On Saturday 27th September 2014 JKS England took a team to compete in the British International Open Karate Championships held at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow. The event is a high level International open under WKF rules and attracted 1,158 entries from 19 nations with 9 tatami being fully utilised from 8.45 am to 9 pm.
The team selected put on a fantastic performance. For many it would be the first time competing at an International event and all performed superbly.
Emelye O'Brien in her first WKF event competing in the 16-17 years division looked dominant in taking the Gold in the +53kg scoring many ippons along the way. Emelye also took Bronze in the Open Weight category which was quite a performance as she was carrying an ankle injury by that stage.
Tom Little also looked on excellent form taking the Silver in the Mens -75kg division narrowly losing to a Spanish fighter in the final.
The team also came home with 9 Bronze medals from the event.
Matt Price Sensei was alone coaching the team for the day for the day as Nick Heald Sensei was in Germany at the Karate1 Premier League event in Hanau Germany where JKS England’s Ashley Scott was competing.
Matt Sensei commented on the performance of the team “Any medal taken at this level of competition is an exceptional achievement!”
