JKS England bring home the medals in Cumbria
The JKS England Squad took part in the 40th Cumbrian Open Karate Championships in Penrith on Sunday 12th June. The event is a high quality regional WKF event and is a regular event on the annual squad calendar giving our competitors great experience against some of the best competitors on the open competition circuit. It was a very warm day with a huge entry, which led to a very long day.
Leading the way in terms of results were Ashley Scott-Heald and Lee Lamb. They won the Senior Female Kumite and Senior Male Kata respectively. Both of these competitors are experienced at WKF Premier League level and this showed in their performances on the day.
Lee also took Gold in Adult Team Kata with Emma Barker and Ross Temple and Gold in Pairs Kata with Emma.
It was perhaps very fitting that Douglas Hunter won the Veterans Kata event this year. This was Doug’s last competition before retirement and a hip replacement operation loom. It was also at the very same event that his competition career started 26 years previously. All the JKS England Squad wish Doug all the best and hope for a speedy recovery from his operation and Matt Price and Nick Heald would like to thank him for all his efforts over the past 5 years since they started running the Squad.
A big thank you to everyone who came along on the day to support the squad.
