JKS the top English team at the BKF 4 Nations
The JKS England Squad had 52 members competing at the British Karate Federation Championships in Sheffield over the weekend of the 27th & 28th May.
The younger children competed on the Saturday and by 9.20am we had clocked up two Golds, both in Pairs Kata. Maisie Redgrave and Isabella Wilkes won the Girls 7-10 Yrs event whilst Grace Baron and Molly Austin-Hogsden won the girls 11-13 year old category.
The second day saw the Cadets, Juniors and Seniors take to the Tatami.
Johann Santos started the Gold run with victory in the Junior Male Kata. His performance of Gojushiho Dai in the final was very strong. This victory made Johann the current English and British Champion.
Sam Coxon won the Veteran Male Kumite with a series of good wins, beating ex-EKF Team member Matt Handley in the final, a good win.
Lewis Bradbury won the U21 Male Kumite -75Kg event with a particularly good series of fights. In the final Lewis' fantastic timing saw him clock up an impressive 7-2 lead over Terry Brigdale, a current England International before a heavy kick to the head saw Terry disqualified. Whilst Lewis was disappointed to win on a DQ, the nature of his lead made the victory honourable.
There were 78 Association taking part over the weekend and JKS England finished 4th on the medal table. Having clocked up six Silver medals over the weekend, we really were knocking on the door of a truly spectacular finish. As it was though, this was our best ever performance and we finished the top English Association, a real credit to all involved.
We would like to thank all competitors, supporters, referees and judges from JKS who attended the event.
