Huge medal haul for JKS England at the Cumbrian Open
JKS England had over 40 competitors take part in the Cumbrian Open in Penrith on Sunday 22nd June. Entries were down on last years event leading to us being the only competitors in some categories so our 11 Gold medals is perhaps a little flattering, however
as they say, you've got to be in it to win it!
We had a great degree of dominance in the Senior events. Tom Little won the Male Kumite, Ashley Scott the Female Kumite and Lee Lamb Senior Kata. We also got Gold and Silver in Male Team Kumite, Female Team Kumite, Adult Team Kata and Adult Pairs Kata. In
Cadet Female Kumite we took all four medals with Emelye O'Brien coming out on top and then leading the girl’s team to victory after that.
It was good to see the JKS England Squad's leading two competitors, Ashley Scott and Emelye O'Brien, both winning their events the day after both had been in Barnsley training on the English Karate Federation National Squad. It would be good to see other JKS
England competitors show the ambition, commitment and ability to move onto the EKF National Squad in either Kata or Kumite.
The Squad's final domestic level competition before they head to Copenhagen in September for the JKS Europeans comes on 6th July when they compete at the Central England Open in Worcester. Good luck to all.
